Qualitative IH Assessments with Noise & Air Monitoring | OSHA Compliance Services
Qualitative IH Assessments with Noise & Air Monitoring give you a clear picture of workplace exposures before they become costly problems. At Life & Safety Consultants, we help employers identify hazards, document risks, and implement effective controls so you can protect your workforce, stay OSHA compliant, and build a safer workplace culture.
Protecting employees from hazardous noise and poor air quality isn’t just the right thing to do—it’s the law. OSHA requires employers to evaluate workplace exposures and take corrective action when limits are exceeded.
At Life & Safety Consultants, we use a proven two-step approach. First, we conduct a Qualitative Industrial Hygiene (IH) Assessment. Next, we follow with Noise & Air Monitoring Compliance Audits. Together, these steps give you a clear picture of workplace risks and the tools to control them before OSHA arrives.

Step 1: Qualitative IH Assessment
During this initial step, our senior consultants conduct a structured onsite evaluation to:
- First, identify hazards such as noise, dusts, vapors, fumes, and physical agents
- Next, group employees into Similar Exposure Groups (SEGs) based on tasks and exposures
- Then, rank exposure risks using AIHA and OSHA strategies to decide where to monitor
- Finally, prioritize corrective actions—from engineering controls to PPE requirements
You receive: A written report with SEGs, exposure ratings, and clear recommendations for monitoring or control.
Step 2: Noise & Air Monitoring
Once we complete the assessment, we turn to targeted compliance audits when elevated risks exist:
- Noise Monitoring – We measure noise levels and determine if employees exceed OSHA’s 85 dBA Action Level. If they do, we then help you implement a full Hearing Conservation Program (hearing protection, training, audiometric testing).
- Air Quality Testing – In addition, we collect and analyze samples for dusts, vapors, fumes, and other airborne contaminants. Our results compare directly against OSHA PELs and ACGIH TLVs.
- Clear, Actionable Reporting – As a result, you receive a compliance report that outlines exposure data, corrective actions, and best-practice recommendations.
- Training & Support – Finally, we provide onsite or online training to keep your workforce safe and compliant.
