What Are OSHA Recordkeeping Requirements?

OSHA recordkeeping requirements apply to many employers and require the accurate documentation of work-related injuries and illnesses. Covered employers must maintain OSHA Form 300 (Log of Work-Related Injuries and Illnesses), OSHA Form 301 (Injury and Illness Incident Report), and prepare OSHA Form 300A (Summary of Work-Related Injuries and Illnesses).

Employers must:

  • Record qualifying work-related injuries and illnesses within seven calendar days
  • Maintain accurate and complete OSHA 300 and 301 forms
  • Post the OSHA 300A summary from February 1 through April 30
  • Submit required data electronically to OSHA by March 2, where applicable
